Alain and Carmen arrived from Switzerland on Thursday - Midday. And from that point on, it was hurry and go - - and hurry some more. But, it was so exciting to meet Carmen and to see Alain again. It seems like 9 years just went by in a moment's time, as I saw him walk into our home! I more than remembered a frightened looking Swiss young gent walking thru that door and saying, "Hi, Mum"..."my name is Alain Bordon and I am here for a year with you and Lorin (Blake) and Dad. Alain brought pics of his family back in Switzerland and some special souvenirs for me, Don, Blake and Crystal. We did get to go out to Pancho's for Carmen's birthday dinner (Thursday evening)...afterwards over to Staples so that Carmen and Alain could meet Crystal - sadly they didn't get to see Blake. He has still been working two jobs. Friday, Alain and Carmen went into Arlington and then Saturday, it was Dallas and the rodeo in Mesquite. They are on the road now - - Austin and San Antonio, plus. Hope they have a wonderful time! This is Blake's last day at work (after 5 years) for Walgreen's. I hope they have treated him well today - he's really been on my mind a great deal this afternoon. Hope all is well with him! As for me, I can't seem to get my family out of my mind. Guess that's part of me being a Mama Bear - and a worrier. Now, it's on to get ready for our Anniversary Supper given to us by our church friends......Saturdaynight, Nov.11th. I have the supplies to do our 50th Wedding Anniversary Scrapbook - just gotta get it done, NOW! Well, heading for bed - I was up early - it always takes me a long time to acclimate to going off Daylight Savings Time! A week from now, I'll be great! Gotta run and see the Dallas Cowboys score. S'Long for now......... Mama Bear

Mama Bear

Thursday - October 26th - Well, more or less, I'm ready for company. I have not heard from Alain to know that "for sure" he and Carmen are going to be here. This is rather disturbing, because I don't know how to plan my day - let alone the rest of the week. Oh well! On to a happier note - and work a few minutes on this week's blog challenge. Memories of Fall - hmmmm. I think the most beautiful Falls I ever witnessed were when we lived in Odenton, Maryland, (not too far from where online friend Shelly lives. I have seen Fall foliage before - but never like that! As beautiful as the Spring can be in Maryland, Fall is even better - - so very colorful. And, as you go up into the hills toward Hagerstown, around every corner there's a different, more colorful sight! Don, Blake and I would take this trip at least twice every Fall, mainly to visit with Aunt Beth Anne, where we'd do the raking and burning of the leaf "thing" and enjoy apple cider, turkey dinner with all the trimmings - and go to the neighborhood flea markets and craft fairs that would herald the oncoming Christmas season. My only other Fall/Halloween happy memory revolves around my sewing the Halloween costumes for my kids or even some for my sewing customers........and always making a new Halloween "treat apron" for myself. Every year I had a different one - with many pockets - each having "goodies" to give out as I opened the door. Sadly that time is gone now. Because of safety issues, parents must take their kiddos to malls or community centers where there are "safe places" to get candy, etc. A sad commentary on today's life style. Now, I am back in Dallas/Ft. Worth area, where there almost only two seasons - and I DO miss the changing of Mother Nature's Dress color......sad, but true. Everything just sorta blends in together. Ah, well - I have some memories...and none of the snow to deal with. Can't have everything, I guess. And - now it's on to have breakfast and decide how this day is going to "shake out". Going to be an interesting day, I think!Mama Bear

Mama Bear

Saturday October 21st - Must make this a quick post, as we have company coming this week! Alain (our foreign exchange student from Switzerland is coming back to visit where he spent the better part of 1196/97. I am excited to see how he has changed in the past almost ten years! Talk about expectations - - these are great expectations on my part! The weather is wonderful (a little chilly, but that's better than 106) - hope it "holds" for the next week! Alain is bringing Carmen, his live-in "squeeze" for the past eight or so years with him. I just hope that Blake and Crystal will have the opportunity to be here for a while. Blake is now working two jobs, so this may not happen. YES! He did get the wonderful job at Staples and he is thrilled - - has less than two weeks left at Walgreen's. So, life goes on - much happier, I think! Gotta go get the vacuuming done and clean some tile floor and windows - never a dull moment. Off N' Running!Mama Bear

Mama Bear

Today is Wednesday, October 18th.....and I am feeling so much better! The awful dizziness only lasted three or four days! I managed to get thru it rather well, I think. Now, I have so much to do to "catch up", including preparing for my Scrapbooking Class tonight. I have no clue just how many will show up - have had a couple of people call and say they can't make it - but, I must hope for a good turn out - I have high Expectations that this will be a great group. Actually I find that there are a couple of words in the English language that bother me (as a teacher) .... one is potential (I understand that word, but just feel that it is a threatening word for many students and people in general). The other - EXPECTATION - can be exitement for some and threatening for others. I would hope that we (I) can have great, POSITIVE expectations....that our world can be filled with Happy Plans and wonderful outcomes. The one message I would like to leave for my children, would be to ALWAYS look at your glass as being half-full, not half-empty and to have expectations that "the cup can only get fuller", expecially if you view life that way - - and plan for the best (while preparing for all contingencies). My life is still filled with great expectations - - that allows me to smile more, work with a positive spirit, plan my work and work my plan. So - - it's on to conquer this day and live with a prayer in my heart (after all, the dizzies are gone)! Oh, I must mention here - - two very lovely positives in my life. My daughter just celebrated her __ birthday. She is such a great Mother and is a credit to her position with the Union Station Foundation. Our youngest son just got a new position with a large Office Supply store ... a very positive step up the corporate ladder and one he is highly deserving of. He's paid his dues with the health care field. Life is good and I have High Expectations for my kiddos.Mama Bear

October 12th - Thursday

It's Blog Creation Day for me - - I find myself wondering just what I should put on here that could be significant. Perhaps the most important thing for me to remember about this day, my October dizziness is back (with a vengence!), and I feel rather woozie this a.m. Hopefully, since this is the second day of the "dizzies", it will only last a week longer - and I will get thru this session in good health. Just wish I knew why this seems to affect me in April/October .... only this year I missed April. Nuff Said about this dumb problem. I know there is a weather change in the works for this week - we are beginning to see it come thru now - - the temperature is dropping. Thank Heaven, as we have spent the summer with over 40 days of continuous 100 plus degree days and very warm nights! But, this morning I got up to a 58 degree morning! Perhaps this huge low pressure and the resultant cooling is responsible for the dizzy problem! Well, I must go on my way - have many things to accomplish today - if I can stand up and walk. Flowers for the wedding on October 28th are done - thank heaven. Now I have Christmas lists to make and gifts and cards to get started on...plus a couple of Witches Brooms for Halloween.....now, that's Fun Stuff. I sure don't plan on accomplishing too much today!
